Matthew 5:22




There are many inspirational quotations and famous sayings about money and lending. However, what the Bible says about lending is very hard and not everyone is willing to follow it.

Exodus 22:25
If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not be like a moneylender; charge him no interest. (NIV)

Leviticus 25:35-37
If one of your countrymen becomes poor and is unable to support himself among you, help him as you would an alien or a temporary resident, so he can continue to live among you. Do not take interest of any kind from him, but fear your God, so that your countryman may continue to live among you. You must not lend him money at interest or sell him food at a profit. (NIV)

Deuteronomy 15:1
At the end of every seven years you must cancel debts. (NIV)

Deuteronomy 23:19-20
Do not charge your brother interest, whether on money or food or anything else that may earn interest. You may charge a foreigner interest, but not a brother Israelite, so that the LORD your God may bless you in everything you put your hand to in the land you are entering to possess. (NIV)

Psalm 15:5
who lends his money without usury and does not accept a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken. (NIV)

Proverbs 3:27-28
Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbor, "Come back later; I'll give it tomorrow"-- when you now have it with you. (NIV)

Proverbs 11:15
He who puts up security for another will surely suffer, but whoever refuses to strike hands in pledge is safe. (NIV)

Proverbs 17:18
A man lacking in judgment strikes hands in pledge and puts up security for his neighbor. (NIV)

Proverbs 22:26-27
Do not be a man who strikes hands in pledge or puts up security for debts; if you lack the means to pay, your very bed will be snatched from under you. (NIV)

Proverbs 28:8

Ezekiel 18:8
